Background
This is a musical adaptation of James Thurbers funny, yet touching story, MANY MOONS. Not since "The Secret Life of Walter Mitty" (1947) and Emmy-award-winning "My World and Welcome To It" (1969) has a work of this legendary American humorist been made available to Hollywood. The book MANY MOONS has been continuously in print for nearly sixty years and has been published throughout the world in more than ten languages. The original version, beautifully illustrated by Louis Slobodkin, won the prestigious Caldecott literary award.
Thurber's Story
The Princess of a mythical kingdom suddenly falls ill. She tells her father that if she can have the moon, she will get well. The King turns to his trusted advisors for help, but each of these supposedly wise men admit in their own humorous way that they have no idea how to get the moon. Only the Kings Jester has the wisdom to ask the Princess herself how to solve the problem. Indeed, the little girls good sense profound in its simplicity solves the problem that no one else in the kingdom could.

Carole Rosen
Producer/Director
Carole Rosen is an award-winning original television programmer and producer. Her distinguished career includes fifteen years as V.P. of Original Programming for HBO, where her experience spanned a wide range of programming genres, including animation, variety, documentary and dramatic live-action. Most recently she has expanded her programming expertise to include producing and directing series of original streaming videos for the Internet.
Rosen was responsible for some of HBOs most successful family programs including the Emmy award winning specials, "Cirque du Soleil," and "Stomp Out Loud." One of her more stunning accomplishments was bringing the most sought after classic childrens book to television life in "Goodnight Moon and Other Sleepytime Tales," winner of the 2000 Emmy for Best Childrens Show and the 2000 George Foster Peabody Award. She also executive produced "The Canterbury Tales," which was nominated for an Academy Award in 1999 and was Senior Producer for the 2000 Academy Award winner for Best Documentary Short Subject, "King Gimp." Rosen received two other Primetime Emmys for Outstanding Childrens Program: in 1997 for "How Do You Spell God?" and in 1995 for "The World Wildlife Fund Presents: Going, Going, Almost Gone!:Animals in Danger."
Rosen is a longtime fan of James Thurbers "Many Moons" and is thrilled to now have the opportunity to bring one of the most beloved childrens classics to television.
